Dan-Bunkering has successfully conducted Union Bulk’s inaugural bunkering of biofuel in Singapore. This significant operation, executed through a ship-to-ship (STS) method, delivered 300 metric tons of bio residual marine fuel (B24 VLSFO) for the vessel Blue Union Alpha on March 9. As a leading global bunker supplier, Dan-Bunkering navigated the complexities of biofuel sourcing and logistics to ensure timely delivery at the Port of Singapore, allowing the Blue Union Alpha to commence its voyage to Europe with the necessary fuel.
Michel Dominique Thomsen, the Commercial Director at Dan-Bunkering, emphasized their preparedness, stating that their robust framework and experienced biofuel supply team enabled them to respond swiftly, completing the ordering process with just one day’s notice. Selecting the right biofuel option involved more than just pricing; it required specialized knowledge and compliance with the vessel’s operational requirements. Dan-Bunkering offered expert guidance to aid Union Bulk in mitigating potential insurance risks by ensuring adherence to specific Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) standards.
The loading of B24 VLSFO is crucial for the Blue Union Alpha’s journey to Europe, as compliance with EU regulations such as the Emissions Trading System (ETS) and FuelEU Maritime is mandatory. Thomas Nielsen, Operations Director and Partner at Union Bulk, highlighted the importance of having the right fuel, quality, and documentation ready for their voyage, noting the ease of the bunkering process compared to conventional marine fuels. By incorporating 300 MT of biofuel, the Union Blue Alpha is projected to achieve significant CO2 reductions—approximately 79 tons—while producing lower greenhouse gas emissions than traditional fuels.
Dan-Bunkering, certified under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), assures compliance and offers necessary financial support to ensure seamless operations.
