Kongsberg Maritime Secures Contract for Design and Equipment of Olympic Group’s Subsea Construction Vessels

Kongsberg Maritime has secured a significant contract for the design of two multipurpose subsea construction vessels. These vessels, known as the UT7623 SEV (Sustainable Energy Vessel), will be equipped to run on methanol and incorporate advanced battery hybrid technology. This contract marks the first application of Kongsberg’s latest subsea construction designs and introduces a comprehensive suite of integrated technologies, including rim-drive propulsion, hybrid power, and sophisticated winch systems.

Designed in partnership with Olympic, these vessels are poised to be the most energy-efficient in their category. They feature a range of integrated technologies such as rim-drive electric azimuth propulsion, retractable azimuth bow thrusters, and advanced automation and control systems. Additionally, the vessels will boast a dynamic positioning system, tank sounding, mooring winches, and a cutting-edge overhead ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) launch and recovery system (LARS).

Kongsberg Maritime’s expertise as an integrator ensures these vessels are versatile and capable of advanced offshore operations, even in challenging conditions, thereby providing Olympic with unparalleled performance and efficiency. Olympic is taking a proactive role in promoting environmentally sustainable maritime solutions. The UT7623 SEV vessels exemplify this commitment, highlighting a significant step in the company’s efforts to enhance operational sustainability.

Stig Remøy, CEO & President of Olympic, emphasized the company’s history of innovation in sustainable offshore operations, stating that these new vessels build on their experience in both renewable energy and traditional oil and gas, offering unmatched flexibility and efficiency. The vessels will be built at the CMHI shipyard in Shenzhen, China, and are slated for delivery in the summer of 2027. They will serve both the renewable energy and oil and gas sectors, incorporating technologies that exceed the requirements set out in the Paris Agreement.

Per Kristian Furø, Sales Director at Kongsberg Maritime, expressed excitement over delivering these state-of-the-art vessels, which not only meet but surpass the demands of modern offshore operations while ensuring minimal fuel consumption.
