Outlook on Fuel Availability in the Americas

The fuel availability outlook across the Americas indicates a generally positive situation, particularly in Houston, where bunker fuel supply is robust for all grades. Recently favorable weather has contributed to the smooth operation of bunker deliveries, with lead times remaining under seven days.

One source noted that the current conditions have facilitated efficient deliveries, reflecting stability in the market. However, vessel transit along the US Gulf Coast encountered some delays earlier in March due to thick fog.

This visibility challenge is expected to improve as weather conditions change throughout the month. The fog is influenced by wind patterns; southerly winds from the Gulf increase fog risks, while colder northerly winds help maintain clear visibility.

Currently, bunkering operations continue to function well in key US Gulf Coast ports, including Galveston, Lake Charles, and Corpus Christi. In the Galveston Offshore Lightering Area, high wind gusts have caused some disruptions, with operations potentially suspended in the near future.

New York is experiencing a mixed fuel availability scenario, with VLSFO and LSMGO readily accessible and suggested lead times decreasing to 3-5 days. Conversely, HSFO remains tight, necessitating longer lead times due to increased demand.

On the West Coast, there has been an improvement in fuel availability in Los Angeles and Long Beach, although suppliers are recommending lead times over seven days for certain grades. Unfortunately, Canada’s Montreal port is facing delays stemming from adverse weather conditions, which are likely to continue for several days.

In the Caribbean and Latin America, Panamanian ports are able to provide prompt deliveries of VLSFO and LSMGO, while HSFO remains constrained. Argentina’s Zona Comun may also see possible operational suspensions due to strong winds forecasted for the weekend.
