Axpo Grows Its Operations in Small-Scale LNG Sector

Axpo has marked a significant milestone in its expansion of small-scale LNG operations by successfully completing its first LNG ship-to-ship delivery at the Port of Algeciras. This achievement highlights Axpo’s commitment to enhancing its LNG bunkering services in key Mediterranean locations.

The delivery was carried out using Axpo’s 7,500-cubic-metre small-scale LNG vessel, the ‘Avenir Aspiration’, which supplied LNG to MSC, a prominent global shipping company. During this operation, approximately 5,000 cubic metres (cbm) of LNG was transferred to the MSC vessel ‘Mariacristina’ at Algeciras, which is recognized as Spain’s largest port.

This recent activity follows a successful ship-to-ship bunkering operation conducted last month in Málaga, where around 5,800 cbm of LNG was delivered to another MSC vessel. These transactions collectively enhance Axpo’s reputation as a reliable provider of LNG bunkering services within the Mediterranean region.

Daniele Corti, Axpo’s Head of Small-Scale LNG, expressed enthusiasm about the company’s latest delivery, describing it as a significant step forward for their LNG bunkering business. He emphasized that expanding operations to a second Spanish port aligns with Axpo’s ambitious growth strategy in small-scale LNG and reinforces their role as a trusted LNG partner.

Spain serves as a critical hub for Axpo’s LNG activities, particularly as the demand for LNG rises, given its reputation as a cleaner and more economical alternative to traditional maritime fuels. Axpo is actively involved in the midstream and downstream natural gas and LNG sector, not only in Switzerland but also across Europe, catering to a diverse clientele that includes small businesses and large industrial enterprises.
