Avikus and ZeroNorth Join Forces to Boost Autonomous and Optimized Shipping Solutions

Avikus, a prominent leader in autonomous navigation solutions and a subsidiary of HD Hyundai, has joined forces with ZeroNorth, a maritime technology innovator, to unveil a groundbreaking partnership. Their collaboration aims to introduce a novel solution that fuses autonomous navigation with real-time voyage optimization. The maritime sector is currently under immense pressure to enhance efficiency, reduce emissions, and bolster safety, all while navigating increasing complexities both offshore and onshore. This shift towards greater autonomy has the potential to revolutionize operations at sea similarly to how autonomous vehicles are evolving land transport.

The strategic alliance between Avikus and ZeroNorth seeks to address these challenges by delivering a unique solution that integrates Avikus’ Level 2 autonomous navigation system with ZeroNorth’s advanced voyage and vessel optimization platform. By leveraging real-time data related to weather, fuel consumption, and navigation instructions, the combined system can autonomously modify the vessel’s speed and route, thereby enhancing safety with intelligent collision avoidance. This innovative, self-adjusting functionality surpasses the capabilities of standalone navigation or optimization tools, leading to more efficient operations, decreased fuel consumption, and reduced emissions, while alleviating pressure on vessel crews. Designed for both new vessels and retrofitting existing ships, this solution aims to elevate operational efficiency and safety in the maritime industry while supporting the gradual transition towards increased autonomy.

Avikus has successfully equipped over 350 vessels worldwide with its navigation assistance technology, while ZeroNorth’s optimization platform is utilized by more than 5,500 vessels, demonstrating the growing demand for AI-powered solutions that enhance safety and efficiency. The partnership agreement was formalized during Nor-Shipping, signed by Dohyeong Lim, CEO of Avikus, and Søren C. Meyer, CEO of ZeroNorth. A pilot launch of the integrated system will be the next milestone in their collaboration. Lim expressed that this partnership signifies a critical advancement in maritime autonomy, while Meyer pointed out that it represents a leap towards bridging the gap between optimal voyage plans and real-world execution aboard ships, ultimately improving both safety and operational efficiency.
