Kalmar and Hanseatic Global Terminals secure major order for hybrid straddle carriers at Le Havre terminal

Kalmar has entered into a significant agreement with Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT) to supply 14 hybrid straddle carriers for the Atlantique multimodal terminal located in the Port of Le Havre, France. This terminal is managed by Compagnie Nouvelle de Manutentions Portuaires Le Havre (CNMP LH). The order, recorded in Kalmar’s Q2 2025 intake, is set for delivery in Q2 of 2026.

Le Havre ranks among the top ten largest ports in Europe and serves as a critical hub for maritime transport into and out of France. Employing more than 550 personnel, the terminal boasts an annual container throughput of three million TEU and provides excellent connections to Paris, particularly via rail. HGT secured a 60% stake in CNMP LH in March 2025, further solidifying its position in this vital market.

The introduction of Kalmar’s hybrid straddle carriers marks a notable advancement at the terminal, aimed at significantly reducing local emissions, lowering fuel costs, and minimizing noise levels. This new equipment will also enhance the working conditions for operators. Currently, the terminal’s fleet includes diesel-electric straddle carriers and empty container handlers, all from Kalmar.

Dheeraj Bhatia, CEO of Hanseatic Global Terminals, emphasized the importance of this investment, stating that it would optimize terminal operations while preparing for increased volume and throughput. He highlighted their commitment to enhancing efficiency through state-of-the-art equipment. Kalmar’s Director of Global Customers, Damien Cols, reflected on the long-standing relationship with CNMP LH, expressing satisfaction that HGT has chosen their eco-friendly hybrid technology.

This support aligns with HGT’s plans to broaden the terminal’s operations and improve its competitive stance in the French market.
