MOL Launches ‘MOL Bay Links’ as a Unified Holding Company for Tugboat Services

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. has recently announced the formation of MOL Bay Links Co., Ltd., a new holding company designed to reinforce the foundation of the MOL Group’s tugboat services. The initiative became effective on July 1, 2025, when MOL transferred all its shares in Nihon Tug-Boat Co., Ltd., Green Shipping, Ltd., and Green Kaiji Kaisha, Ltd. to MOL Bay Links, solidifying its role as a holding company. The establishment of MOL Bay Links is intended to optimize the organizational structure and boost competitiveness across the group.

It will also ensure the preservation of the regional initiatives undertaken by Nihon Tug-Boat, Green Shipping, Green Kaiji Kaisha, and their subsidiaries, thereby enhancing operational effectiveness within the tugboat service sector. MOL Bay Links Co., Ltd. is headquartered in Tokyo and has its president, Hiroyuki Kakehashi, leading its operations. The company operates under the sole ownership of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, which holds a 100% share.

The companies involved in this strategic realignment have significant histories in the tugboat service industry. Nihon Tug-Boat Co., established in 1967, specializes in tugboat operations, shipping, and ship chartering, with Keizo Tamura serving as its president. Green Shipping, established in 1930, provides a range of services including shipping agency operations and customs clearance, under the leadership of President Koji Tsue. Lastly, Green Kaiji Kaisha, operating since 1969, focuses on tugboat operations and coastal shipping, with Nobuo Tsuboi as its president.

Overall, the creation of MOL Bay Links is a strategic move by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines to unify and enhance the capabilities of its tugboat services within the industry.
