RSGT, the leading container terminal operator in Saudi Arabia and a subsidiary of the Sustainable Infrastructure Holding Company (SISCO), is set to expand its operations into multi-purpose terminal operations. This initiative comes through newly awarded concessions at four strategic port facilities along the Red Sea, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and enhancing the Kingdom’s status as a global logistics hub.
The company has entered into 20-year concession agreements with the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), granting RSGT operational responsibilities for several key terminals. These include the Jeddah Islamic Port, which will consolidate its general cargo and Ro-Ro terminals into one multi-purpose terminal.
Additionally, RSGT will enhance container operations at King Fahd Industrial Port in Yanbu, while also managing general cargo and dry bulk operations at Yanbu Commercial Port and Port of Jazan. Collectively, the four terminals will add 13 kilometers of quay length and 3.3 million square meters of terminal space to RSGT’s existing portfolio.
The operations will be governed by a new Multi-Purpose Terminals (MPT) business unit that specializes in managing a diverse range of non-containerized cargo segments. To support this expansion, RSGT plans to invest at least SAR 1.6 billion (approximately USD 418 million) over the 20-year concession period, with a significant portion earmarked for the initial five years.
This investment will focus on modernizing infrastructure, acquiring advanced equipment, and implementing smart technologies to meet global standards. RSGT’s projected throughput includes substantial volumes of general and bulk cargo, Ro-Ro units, and livestock.
The expansion into multi-purpose terminals not only reflects RSGT’s growth trajectory but also strengthens Saudi Arabia’s role in global supply chains. According to RSGT CEO Jens Floe, this diversification will enhance the company’s commitment to global trade and economic diversification, and sets the stage for further growth across international logistics.
As RSGT grows its portfolio, it solidifies its status as a key player in the logistics sector.
