Marlink, a prominent provider of managed services for critical IT solutions, has announced a new agreement with its long-term partner, Solstad. This collaboration extends their partnership through to the end of 2028, focusing on enhancing Solstad’s connectivity with state-of-the-art technology. Under this agreement, Solstad will implement Marlink’s SealinkNextGen network solution, which integrates Starlink’s low Earth orbit (LEO) as the primary connectivity channel, supplemented by guaranteed GEO-VSAT connectivity and MSS backup options. This setup offers numerous advantages to Solstad, such as high throughput and low latency communications, which facilitate advanced applications like video conferencing and cloud computing.
In addition to operational benefits, the new connectivity options will enable crew members access to social media and streaming services, allowing them to maintain connections with family and friends more easily. The globally reliable VSAT system will ensure full redundancy for all applications. Furthermore, the contract allows Solstad to adapt its fleet configuration in a cost-effective manner, leveraging Starlink for faster throughput and a flexible bandwidth distribution method across its vessels. Vessel managers will have the ability to allocate bandwidth as needed based on operational demands.
Solstad operates worldwide, with significant activities in regions like Brazil, the North Sea, Southeast Asia, Australia, and Africa. The company has made substantial strides in reducing its carbon emissions through its successful Solstad Green Operations program, positioning itself as a leader in efficient offshore shipping. Christian Nesheim, ICT Director at Solstad, expressed satisfaction with the renewal, stating that agile partners like Marlink are key to achieving the company’s goals. Tore Morten Olsen, President Maritime at Marlink, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of trust and support in their long-standing relationship.
