Denmark Nearly Tops Global Safety Rankings for the Fifth Consecutive Year

Denmark has once again demonstrated its commitment to maritime safety by securing the second position on the newly released Whitelist from the Paris Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This ranking reflects how ships flying different flags perform under port state controls in member countries. For the fifth consecutive year, Denmark has been a top contender, although this time it has been edged out by France, which moved into first place.

Norway follows closely in third. Anne H. Steffensen, CEO of Danish Shipping, attributes this success to the quality and integrity associated with the Danish flag. She notes that customers around the world trust Danish-flagged vessels for their reliability and high standards.

Steffensen expressed pride in Denmark’s international recognition in shipping but emphasized that there is always room for improvement. The Paris MoU regulates more than 17,000 inspections of foreign ships each year in its 28 member countries across Europe and North America. Steffensen remains optimistic about reclaiming the top position in the coming year.

She stressed that maintaining this standard demands ongoing dedication to safety, environmental concerns, and the welfare of seafarers aboard Danish ships. In closing, Steffensen urged the maritime community to remain vigilant. As Denmark strives to uphold its reputation as one of the world’s leading flag states, continuous focus on improvement will be essential.

With commitment and attention to these critical areas, Danish shipping can look forward to further success in the future.
