EIA Reports US Crude Oil Production Reached Record Levels in April

In April, U.S. crude oil production reached an unprecedented level of 13.47 million barrels per day (bpd), surpassing the previous month’s total of 13.45 million bpd, as reported by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) in its Petroleum Supply Monthly series. Notably, the EIA had initially estimated oil output for March at 13.49 million bpd. Texas, the leading state in crude oil production, saw an increase of 1.8% in output, reaching 5.77 million bpd, marking its highest production level since November. Conversely, New Mexico, the second-largest producer, experienced a decline of 3.4%, with output dropping to 2.19 million bpd.

The EIA also reported a rise in total U.S. petroleum product supplied, which is a key indicator of demand. In April, this measure increased by 263,000 bpd to 20.21 million bpd. Gasoline demand specifically rose by 145,000 bpd, reaching 8.91 million bpd, the highest figure since October. However, the demand for distillate fuels, which encompasses diesel and heating oil, saw a slight decrease, falling to 3.88 million bpd from 3.89 million bpd in March.

In addition to oil, gross natural gas production in the lower 48 states of the U.S. also hit a record in April, averaging 120.31 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd), a marginal increase from March’s previous peak of 120.28 bcfd. In Texas, natural gas output rose by 1.2% to a record 37 bcfd, while Pennsylvania reported a small decline of 0.5% to 21.12 bcfd. The previous record for Texas was 36.56 bcfd, according to the EIA.
