Lloyd’s Register (LR) has announced an important enhancement to its Global Fuel Finder tool, which now includes capabilities for biofuels. This upgrade aims to assist ship operators and technical teams in making informed decisions while navigating the increasingly complex marine energy landscape. The addition of biofuel availability and quality insights enables clients to approach the energy transition with greater confidence.
The newly developed feature stems from LR’s Fuel Oil Bunkering Analysis and Advisory Service (FOBAS) team. Users can easily search, compare, and analyze biofuels across numerous global ports through the Global Fuel Finder. Accessible via the LR GMT platform, the tool provides six months of data from specific ports or suppliers, allowing users to visualize trends and download detailed reports in various formats.
By enabling comparisons among up to four supplier-port combinations, the tool delivers clear insights that support fuel procurement and compliance assessments. Andrew Shaw, Managing Director of FOBAS, emphasized the commitment to providing practical, data-driven solutions to facilitate the decarbonization of shipping. He stated that the enhanced Fuel Finder equips clients with essential information, enabling them to swiftly assess fuel options, compare performance, and mitigate operational risks.
Current LR clients can access the upgraded Fuel Finder tool at no extra charge through the LR GMT platform. New users have the option of a free seven-day trial. LR’s FOBAS service also offers expertise in fuel testing, advisory services, and risk mitigation strategies for navigating fuel quality and regulatory compliance challenges.
Additionally, LR has released the “Fuel for Thought” report, consolidating critical information on biofuels in shipping. This reference document serves shipowners considering alternative fuels and maritime professionals seeking insights into the zero-carbon transition. It includes expert contributions on biofuel characteristics, regulatory considerations, and testing trials, forming part of LR’s comprehensive series on alternative fuel sources.
