Exciting Developments at IRI: Innovation, Collaboration, and Global Engagement for Republic of the Marshall Islands

The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Registry has successfully concluded an engaging week at Nor-Shipping 2025. With a team of 16 members present at the conference and its related events, International Registries, Inc. (IRI) emphasized collaboration, innovation, and client relations throughout the week. IRI’s role is to provide administrative and technical support to the RMI Registry.

A few highlights included participation in DNV’s VIP reception and BBQ, along with the significant announcement made by Bar Technologies about the delivery of the RMI-flagged BRANDS HATCH. This vessel is the first newly built Long Range 2 tanker equipped with WindWings® technology, a rigid sail system designed to harness wind propulsion. This technology enables the BRANDS HATCH to achieve daily savings of 4.5 tons of fuel and reduce CO2 emissions by 14 tons on standard global routes.

Furthermore, the week marked the signing of a joint development project involving Lloyd’s Register, HD Hyundai Mipo, PanOcean, and the RMI Maritime Administrator focused on a new ultramax bulk carrier design. Senior leadership from IRI, including President Bill Gallagher and other key executives, played a prominent role in various events. They were joined by a dedicated team that included Em Gallagher, Marius Molver, and Rafael Riva, among others, who actively participated alongside the senior leaders to enhance visibility and engagement.

Bill Gallagher noted the importance of Norway as a critical market for the RMI Registry, highlighting that this year’s Nor-Shipping attracted unprecedented attendance from global stakeholders. He also recognized the RMI’s commitment to quality shipping, especially at a reception where he thanked RMI-flagged vessel owners for their dedication. The RMI has achieved significant milestones, including 21 consecutive years of USCG QUALSHIP 21 qualification, making it the only registry to reach such a distinction.

Overall, the RMI continues to maintain a strong presence in the maritime industry, with a growing number of vessels registered, underscoring its commitment to high standards in maritime safety and operations.
